Dealing though Ebay, a couple of years ago, getting so many broken jars.......I just quit Ebay......I quit even window shopping...It is a big deal to received a jar that was poorly pack and broken. Our P.O. is hard to catch in that dept. and I just never did make claims on alot of the broken jars. A couple of weeks ago I received three broken jars took them [Friday] 6-21-02 to the P.O. for a claim, they send the paper work home with me. I hadn't even taken the claims form in and on 6-24-02 & 6-25-02 I received two more broken jars. Like I had said a couple years ago, I didn't collect my money on the claims, and I didn't do anything. I didn't leave feedback just let it go on by. The fellow that sent me the first broken jar had an attitude and said he couldn't help it after it left his hands. I ask for reciept and when I received it, I decided we need to not let this problem go on & On. I gave him a negative, and after receiving the last two and was told they were well packed, I left three more negatives,but did say they had sent receipt for claim. Well, I stired up alot of bad apples! I even received a neg. from the guy with an attude, and it's the only feedback he's ever left! But he had be cohearsed by another that sent email to enjoy my neg. I had felt maybe to harsh, but I had tried to tell these people how to pack before they packed them up. I was even told that by a 2 sellers that they had done such a good job. I did a follow up and tried to smooth things over a bit. But in checking all but one had left and received neg. I said all that to say that I am tired of receiving broken jars. I even posted a servey on Ebay for ideas of how I should have handled this situtation. If you would like to go there and leave you're opinions, they will be very much appreciated. My husband has had problems with this, and I sure didn't mean to ruin anyone's life..I just wanted to get people attention on packing and hopiing to save a few cookie jar and lots of time and money. I do feel I was to harsh, all but the one, but it is a big deal! I haven't gotten my feet in the door of the ACJA and I maybe getting thrown out. However, they have no control over how the jar is packed by the seller. Similarly, sellers have no control over how the postal system will handle the box once they are moving it from seller to buyer. In my experience with broken jars arriving in the mail, as yours, the sellers' responses most of the times were that they packed it well. I'm sorry, but one piece of bubble wrap and a crumpled piece of newspaper is not considered packing "well" in most collector's opinion. I try to let ebay sellers know how much I want their jar. After all, I was high bidder on it. I also try to discretely ask them if they will double box it. Most of the time their response back to me is that they will pack it well. I do always check feedback, and if they have feedback showing that the merchandise was damaged upon receipt, I do not bid. However, negative feedback sometimes is not given because of the hassle and the negative feedback given in retaliation, as in your case. However, sometimes, no matter how well the jar is packed, even sometimes double boxed, the jar will be damaged during shipping. It's just one of the many risks we buyers must face....and always hope for the best until the jar arrives. I have found that holding my breath until I get the box open and examine the jar sometimes does not work! :>) Good luck! Smoky

Posts: 0 (06/30/02 17:57:10) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Hi,I have received several broken plates,bowls and such.It was always the packing.Two Blue Willow Plates for instance packed with only 3 sheets of crumpled newspapers,stuffed into a priority mail box suitable for a large book.Another with only a few peanuts rattling around with a few scraps of shredded newspaper.I tend to think that after some of the sellers get there money,they don't care what happens with the item.The P.O. lady thinks its a shame for the pretty things to get broken that way.Good luck with your collecting in the future.

I have received jars that virtually had nothing between it and the cardboard box that made it okay. I have also had jars that were extremely well packed that were broken. So who knows what might cause one to break and not another one. But one thing I have done for a few years is when I buy the jar tell folks I have received broken jars and would appreciate it if they would double box the jar with lots of bubble wrap. I also offer to send a few extra bucks to cover the materials. No one seems to have a problem with this and only about 50% want the extra money, most say don't worry they will take care of it for me. So, I have received what I think are better packed jars in the last year or so ... maybe that makes a difference, maybe not. bc

I had no problem with getting refunds, even though I paid for insurance on all 4 jars. The reason being was that the sellers had poorly packaged all 4 jars and the post office will not reimburse on poorly packaged items. It's a shame that sellers don't take care in packaging. One of the cookie jars was a Fapco Hen. Angel

The worst case was 3 jars in a 3 ft by 16 inch box, with only plastic shopping bags stuffed in between. I had no trouble with the post office about the poor packaging of the jars. The only complaint that I have,With the post office, is that it takes about 2 months to get your money back. I find that you must really fight many places to get them to honor your insurance. It sounds to me like your PO is taking advantage of you. Insist on dealing with the Postmaster face to face. Maybe they are bad about damage there and do not want to deal with the customers. Most jars I recieve are wrapped in bubble wrap and often double boxed. I have recieved some well packed that were broken but most broken ones are in newspaper. But the loss of a beautiful and sometimes rare jar is what i find horrifying. Most people pack items well and some just do not understand how to pack a item. You should ask about how they ship and most will pack more carefully if you point it out. tamra
